Test scene: Ultra Boy

Monstress stepped into the kitchen, wrapped in a purple silk robe with a floral pattern. Her usually-immaculate hair was slightly mussed; she hadn't yet gone through her usual morning beauty routine.

She yawned, stretched slightly, and moved towards the cooler. They had an autochef, of course, but she was more interested in preparing her own breakfast this morning.

"Oh, definitely. I may have left an imprint on the wall, though." She got to her feet, still chuckling.

"Clever thought, swapping powers like that for effect."

Looking at the wall, Jo couldn't help another chuckle.

"Thanks! I can't remember why I thought of it, but I was hoping it would work. And I noticed something while I was using the super speed. I think I was able to process everything faster in order to keep up with my body. Perhaps that can help process the information I get using the x-ray vision?"

Jo was lost in thought about this possibility, and simply stood there absently, rather than put plan into action.

"Except if you've got super speed on, can you use X-Ray vision?" she prompted.

Absently waving that aside, Jo responded "It doesn't seem so. It seems only one power can be active at a time, but I was thinking of activating x-ray and switching to super speed immediately afterwards to help process the information. Ideally, I won't need to do this forever, but it might be helpful for the first few times. Probably still hurt, though."

Bracing himself, he was about to activate X-Ray vision when he realized where he was looking. Flushing a bit, Jo turned back to where the target had been and activated the vision for a moment and switched to super speed.

Jo stumbled a bit, but stayed upright, once again clutching his head.

"Did that help?" she asked gently. She noticed he had looked away before turning on his x-ray vision; she wasn't going to bring it up and embarrass him, though.

Shaking his head, Jo righted himself and muttered, "Huh. I wondered why I hadn't seen a pool in here."

Turning to Candi, "Yeah, that helped. I think switching to super speed allowed me to process the information better at least before the pain became overwhelming... Sorry, I don't think I am explaining this well. I'm not sure how to explain this properly, but it seems to have helped."

Pausing for a moment as a thought came to him, Jo continued "Or I could simply be adjusting to the power and will eventually be able to use it with feeling pain. Either way works for me."

"Let's hope it's the latter." She smiled gently at him. "Let's see... super-speed, super toughness, x-ray vision, super speed..." She grinned widely as the thought came to her. "That's right! Flight!"

Completely forgetting about the potential reasons for the X-Ray vision hurting less, and the potential uses for it both moral and immoral, Jo perked up at the possibility of flight.

He flipped the mental switch for flight and jumped up excitedly.

And promptly bounced off the ceiling.

Monstress leaped into the air to catch him before he came down to the ground.

"Woah there," she warned. "Careful."

"Oh goody, more pain for my head." Rubbing his cranium, Jo looked up to face Candi. "Thanks for the save! And yeah, I'll try that again more carefully. Ummm...while I can't complain about the position, could you put me down?"

"No problem," she smiles, placing the other teen on the ground.

"Thanks!" Closing his eyes and taking a few calming breaths, Jo focused on simply trying to levitate about a foot in the air, rather than try to impersonate a ceiling fan.

She stood back and watched.

"I think it's working, dear," she grinned.

Jo opened his eyes upon hearing that and looked down.

'Sprock! I am flying! Wooho-whoa!' He started losing control but calmed himself before he hurt himself again. After regaining control he started moving about slowly, eventually going to more reasonable speeds.

After a few minutes of goofing off, he landed in front of Candi, stumbling slightly. "That. is. AWESOME! Though I think it might be best to test that more thoroughly in open spaces."

"Well," she grinned, "maybe after you also get a backup power source for it, too." She flashed her Legion ring. "Once you get one of these, you can use it to fly, too."

Jo smiled at that. "That will free me up to use one of these other powers in flight! Depending on how it works, that might even allow for some interesting tricks to pull off!"

Jo's mind was racing with the possibilities that flight would afford him that wasn't self powered. He did intend to find out if his own flight powers, to see if there was any difference between them and the ring.

"Can you think of any other powers I might have that we can test?" Jo couldn't think of any other powers he might have gained and figured asking Candi couldn't hurt.

She indicated the target dummies back at the other end. "Cold breath," she explained. "Freeze people in their tracks."

'Cold breath? How does that work?' Jo was a bit confused. After a bit of thought, he decided to just give it a try.

Turning towards the target dummies, Jo attempted to flip the switch for "Cold Breath" and breathed deep. He then exhaled forcefully at the dummies.

"ACHOO!" Or tried at any rate. Though there were some icicles that flew out of him when he did that, so he might not be too far off.

"Hey, you managed icicles! Nice work!" she grinned. "Go on... give it another try!"

'Ow.' Jo didn't like that sensation at all. 'Perhaps forgoing the deep breath?'

Jo breathed normally this time and exhaled forcefully.

A cone of freezing air came out of his mouth, freezing everything in its path.

Unfortunately, Jo's lips were in that path as well and as a result were turned blue. He didn't register this in his excitement at the apparent success.

"Nice work!" she applauded. "Built-in air conditioning!" She gave him a supportive pat on the back. "Might want to peel your lips back next time, to keep your lips from getting frostbite, though."

"Huh?" Knocked from his adrenaline fueled excitement, Jo finally registered the pain from his lips. He touched his lips and winced. That hurt!

Hearing Monstress's suggestion, Jo replied "Ah'll keepf thed in mimd fer lahder."

Not knowing how to deal with frostbite, he looked in askance at Candi. "Chould joo halp me, pleasth?" He asked gesturing towards his lips.

"Let's get you to see Doctor Gym'll. He'll have that treated in no time." She clasped a hand on his shoulder. "I hope it's not too painful."

"Paynefuhl? Noh, nuth rahlly. Joth weart." Jo was debating the pros and cons of testing if accelerated healing was something he had. There were a lot of pros but the cons could be disastrous. But for the moment, to the doctor!

Giving an exaggerated bow to Candi "Leth tah weyh, Muh Lathy."
